LeafGuard Gutters of St. Cloud Case Studies: Snow Guards For Metal Roof
What Are Snow Guards?
Snow Guards are devices used on a steel or metal roof to retain snow and allow for it to fall down or melt in a controlled and restrained manner, rather than all at once.
How are Snow Guards Installed?
Commonly, Snow Guards are installed in rows or sets, staggered and horizontally. They can be clamped on through the roof or attached by an adhesive. It is important to have several barriers throughout the roofing to help mitigate copious amounts of packed snow and ice.
Should I Install Snow Guards on MY Metal Roof?
If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, chances are you’ve seen the havoc snow and ice can create. Having large amounts of snow sitting on a roof waiting to come crashing down can be very dangerous to your home structure and anything you may find below. Snow Guards are an extra measure to keep yourself and your home protected.
This residential home located in Sherburne Co. has a steep, metal roof. During the winter months, ice and snow accumulate on the roof and eventually slides down at a high velocity.
It is a common occurrence with steel roofing and could potentially damage gutter systems, plants, people, or anything below the roof.
The best defense against avalanches of snow and ice coming off your steel roof is installing Snow Guards. Other names Snow Guards are commonly known as are; snow rails, snow stops, or snow breaks. All mentioned are the same concept, just a different name. There are different styles of snow guards that can be used depending on your metal roof size & profile; standing seam, corrugated, metal tile, etc. It is best to speak with a professional to help determine what is best suited for your home.
Before installing the LeafGuard Gutter System, our technicians staggered A-Clamp style snow rails roughly 6′ above the roofline. Staggering rows of snow guards assist in spreading out accumulated snow on the roof, instead of letting it pile up in one concentrated area. This is ideal for a metal roof with a steeper pitch.
Right above the roofline, our technicians also installed two runs of snow rails (17′ & 8′) as an extra defense to break up any snow sliding off the roof.
After attaching snow rails, our technicians installed 127′ of LeafGuard gutters in the color of Hartford green to perfectly match the roof, snow guards, and fascia board. Eight, high volume downspouts in color wicker were installed for maximum drainage and to match the home siding.
The home and landscaping are better protected against water issues and damage from possible snow and ice avalanches.
